New Solar Battery Rebates, Loans & VPP Credits — What You Need to Know in 2025
As energy prices continue to rise, now is the smartest time to invest in solar battery storage. Whether you're looking to reduce your bills, gain independence from the grid, or future-proof your home, the latest government incentives can make it all far more affordable — and even cash-positive from day one.
Here’s what’s available to Victorian homeowners from 1 July 2025 — and how you can make the most of it.
🔋 1. The New Solar Battery Rebate – Save Up to $7,875
Starting 1 July 2025, the Cheaper Home Batteries Program will offer $372 per usable kilowatt-hour (kWh) of battery storage for eligible Victorian households.
That means:
-
10 kWh battery = approx. $3,720 rebate
-
15 kWh battery = approx. $5,580 rebate
-
25 kWh battery = up to $7,875 rebate
This rebate applies directly to your battery system, significantly reducing upfront costs.
🇦🇺 2. Combine State & Federal Rebates – Save $3,000–$7,000+
Most customers can combine this new battery rebate with existing Federal incentives and Solar Victoria programs, including:
-
Federal STCs (Small-scale Technology Certificates) worth $2,500–$3,500 (based on system size)
-
Solar Victoria’s $1,400 solar panel rebate
-
An $8,800 interest-free loan to spread out costs
That’s thousands of dollars off the total price, upfront and over time — making solar battery storage more accessible than ever.
⚡ 3. Join a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) and Earn $350/Year
Want to get even more out of your battery?
By joining a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), you can share stored energy from your battery back to the grid during high-demand times. In return, you’ll earn credits — often up to $350 per year.
-
You stay connected and in control of your battery
-
You still use it for your own home first
-
You get paid for simply helping the energy network run more efficiently
There’s no catch, and most VPPs are flexible, allowing you to opt in or out at any time.
💰 What Does It All Mean for You?
With rebates, credits, and interest-free finance, many households are seeing:
-
Upfront savings of $3,000–$7,000+
-
Battery payback periods of just 4–5 years
-
Monthly repayments lower than their current power bills
Plus, by storing your solar energy or charging your battery during off-peak hours, you’ll dramatically reduce your exposure to energy price hikes — and keep your lights on even during blackouts.
